Are you interested in making a positive impact in our community? Do you want to play a pivotal role in planning events and activities for downtown residents and workers? If so, we invite you to join us on the Downtown Minneapolis Neighborhood Association’s Civic Engagement Committee!
What does the Civic Engagement Committee do, exactly? Here are just a few examples of our ongoing initiatives:
- Community Outreach: We engage with residents, local businesses, and community organizations to better understand their needs and priorities and take collective action to address them.
- Prepare the Annual Community Survey for distribution at the DMNA Annual Meeting and via our e-newsletter and website.
- Share information about the DMNA at events and activities hosted by our community partners including the Minneapolis Downtown Council / DID, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, the Mill City Farmers Market, etc.
- Help develop and implement a rental building outreach and engagement program.
- Events and Initiatives: We organize events and activities designed to foster community cohesion and civic participation.
- Service Saturdays (typically the last Saturday of the month from April through October) – Plan and participate in community cleanup events and greening projects.
- National Night Out – August 6, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Commons
- DMNA Annual meeting (typically the last week in October or first week in November) – DMNA Board elections take place at this meeting. Help coordinate the Volunteer of the Year Award.
- Collaborate with our community partners to plan and host other events throughout the year. Examples include Personal Safety Workshops, Candidates Forums, etc.
We’re currently seeking new members to join the Civic Engagement Committee and bring fresh perspectives to the table. Whether you’re interested in event planning, urban planning, environmental sustainability, social justice, or simply want to make a difference in your neighborhood, there’s a place for you here.
