[DMNA] Keep Minneapolis Beautiful Campaign Launch - 11 a.m., Th. Sept. 27

WHAT: KEEP MINNEAPOLIS BEAUTIFUL kicks off a public awareness campaign
targeting cigarette butt litter in downtown Minneapolis.

A check for $5,000 donated by Waste Management of Minneapolis will be
presented. Remarks by Mayor Rybak and others are part of program. Free
pocket ashtrays to be distributed. The public and press are invited. 

 

WHEN: Thursday, Sept. 27, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Remarks begin at noon. 

 

WHERE: Nicollet Mall between 6th and 7th Streets, coinciding with the
Farmers' Market

 

WHO: Mayor R.T. Rybak and City Council President Barbara Johnson among
others will the address crowd, live music by jazz group Rio Nido, a petition
drive and volunteer sign-up will launch. Project participants include Tom
Hoch, President/CEO of Hennepin Theatre Trust, Angela Brenny, Clean City
Coordinator for the City of Minneapolis, Gail Cunningham of Keep American
Beautiful and Julie Ketchum, Waste Management of Minneapolis.

 

BACKGROUND: Cigarette butt litter is the most prevalent source of litter
nationwide and cited by people who live, work and play in downtown
Minneapolis as a top concern as part of maintaining a clean neighborhood.

affiliate of the national non-profit Keep America Beautiful, Inc.
