policies to sustain growth Date: Fri, 11 May 2007 15:38:43
-0500The City of Minneapolis invites residents to take an
on-linesurvey that covers three broad policy areas:
sustainability,heritage preservation, and urban design.Find
the survey at http://www.minneapolisplan.info. The first
round of community forums will end May 17, but thesurvey
will be on-line through mid-June. This is a greatopportunity
to share thoughts and ideas about whatMinneapolis should
look like in 2030.The City of Minneapolis is updating The
Minneapolis Plan forSustainable Growth, its long-term vision
for the growth andphysical development of the city. The plan
addresses housing, jobs, transportation, parks and open
spaces, and waterresource management; the updated plan will
also include afuture land-use map.A second series of
community forums will take place in latesummer and early
fall of this year. State law requires theCity of Minneapolis
to update its plan periodically. To meetregional planning
requirements overseen by the MetropolitanCouncil, the City
must complete an updated plan in 2008. Thelast major update
was completed in 2000, although there havebeen amendments
since then. The plan is used to design andimplement a
variety of City policies and programs; developand adopt
neighborhood, small-area and city-wide plans;review and
approve project-specific site plans and
land-useapplications; review and approve public
land-acquisition anddisposition proposals; plan and
prioritize capitalimprovement and infrastructure projects;
and determinepriorities for public financing of projects and
programs. The plan addresses housing, jobs, transportation,
parks andopen spaces, and water resource management; the
updated planwill also include a future land-use map. More
