Construction Update

CONSTRUCTION ALERT
This Update is the first in a series of informational alerts
to keep you updated on the construction going on in the area
of the new Twins Ballpark site.
5th STREET, WEST END OF THE BRIDGE, by the FORD CENTRE
Detour signs have been posted noting that 5th Street west of
the Bridge will be down to one eastbound lane beginning on
Wednesday, April 25. Westbound traffic will not have access
to the bridge, and drivers should follow posted detour
signs. Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES)
will dig a large access pit to reline and strengthen a very
old sanitary sewer so that Northstar rail and Ballpark
construction do not harm the sewer. The contractor will
put up fencing and barriers beginning on Monday. After
moving some utilities, including electrical lines from Xcel,
the contractor will dig a large hole to slide in new pipe to
line the sewer. Westbound traffic is recommended to use 7th
Street or 2nd Avenue and Washington Avenue. In the near
future, 5th Street will close completely to allow for
Northstar and Ballpark construction. This closure will
likely last until fall.
