Subject: Bicyclist & Pedestrian Input Needed

You can help make Minneapolis even friendlier to pedestrians and bicyclists!

We all know Minneapolis is already a great place to get out and explore on
foot or on a bike. But you can help make it even better.

The Minneapolis Public Works Department is holding an open house to hear
folks' ideas and priorities on making Minneapolis a more walkable and
bikeable place. People who attend will be asked for their ideas and input
on proposed bicycle and pedestrian-related infrastructure projects.

Public open house:

Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007

4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

City Hall, room 220

350 S. 5th St.

The Minneapolis area has been chosen as one of only four communities
nationwide to participate in the Non-Motorized Transportation Pilot Program,
which was established in 2005. The federal program provides $21.5 million
to the four communities to evaluate how investments in planning,
infrastructure, and public education can increase rates of bicycling and
walking, and reduce driving in a community.

Transit for Livable Communities, a non-profit organization based in St.
Paul, has been chosen to award the money locally. The City of Minneapolis
is currently developing a list of proposals to apply for the available
funding, and this open house will help the City better understand the
public's priorities.
